Get ready to see Japanese woodblock ukiyo-e masterpieces transformed into an immersive multi-sensory experience.
The “Ukiyo-e Immersive Art Exhibition” in Milan, running from April 4 to June 16, 2024, at TENOHA MILANO, offers a unique dive into Japanese culture. Featuring over 300 works by famous artists like Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, and Utagawa Hiroshige, the exhibition provides an immersive experience through 9 thematic rooms.
Highlights include 3D animations, projection mapping, and a chance to wear an authentic kimono.
With a successful debut in Nagoya, Japan, (July/August 2023) drawing 80,000 visitors in 50 days, this exhibition invites attendees to explore the “floating world” of Edo-period Japan through art and technology.
See the Work of Famous Ukiyo-e Artists
The exhibition showcases iconic works by Hokusai, Hiroshige, and Kuniyoshi, among others. Hokusai’s renowned “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” captivates with its dynamic depiction of nature’s power. Hiroshige’s “The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō” offers a picturesque journey through Edo-period Japan, while Kuniyoshi’s vibrant prints display mythical themes and historical figures. These artworks, brought to life through modern technology, offer a unique glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of Japan.
Kimono Experience
The exhibition is also offering the “Kimono Experience” which allows visitors to see the artworks while wearing an authentic Japanese Kimono. This experience is available everyday for women and children in two time slots depending on availability. Tickets start at 20 EUR and can be booked via the tickets link below.

Tickets are priced at 11/13 EUR reduced – 13/15 EUR regular admission. Reduced prices are valid for weekdays, as well as, for students, senior-citizens and groups over 10.
Organized by TENOHA MILANO (a multi-functional space), HITOHATA (creators of muti-sensory experiences), and AICI TELEVISION (a tv station from Nagoya, Japan).
