If you’ve been following the blog for a while you’ll recognize that a lot of my art work focuses on the revered Mount Fuji in Japan. I have already created numerous original art prints highlighting Mount Fuji. Today, I add to this collection with a set of two brand new contemporary Mount Fuji art prints.
Details of the Mount Fuji Art Prints
Inspired by Ukiyo-e Art
One of my key inspirations continues to be the traditional ukiyo-e woodblock technique of Japanese art. I am an avid collector of prints by the likes of Hokusai and Hiroshige, and their work influences my own to this day.
The Majesty of Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji, often considered a symbol of eternal beauty and tranquility in Japanese culture, becomes the central character of this work surrounded by the Rising Sun or by the Rising Moon depending on the version.

Use of Japanese Patterns – Wagara
You’ll find most of my Japanese art prints adorned by traditional Japanese patterns, also known as wagara. With these Mount Fuji art prints, I have used the “Kikko” patterns on the top half, adding geometry and symmetry to contrast the organic lines of Mount Fuji.
Kikko, meaning “tortoiseshell,” is a hexagonal pattern that resembles the pattern on the shell of a tortoise. It is a symbol of longevity, good luck, and protection against evil.
The Japanese Proverb
In the bottom half of the both prints is an inscription of this relevant Japanese proverb:
富士山に登らぬ馬鹿、二度登る馬鹿
which loosely translates as “a wise man climbs Mount Fuji once, only a fool would climb it twice.”
Hanko and Komon
Below the Japanese proverb is The Art of Zen “Hanko” or signature, as well as, the “Kamon” or emblem/crest. Both of these signify that this is an original artwork.
Print and Size
These two Mt Fuji Art Prints are printed using museum quality inks on 189 gsm matte paper sourced from Japan.
These limited edition art prints come in an edition of 50 per size each, with a total edition size of 250.
